/i/nsurgency W/i/ki:About
The Partyvan W/i/ki was put together and run so that the newfags can just read stuff here instead of it needing to be explained to them tons of times in the chat.
History[edit]
- June 7 - July 28 (2007)
During this period, the wiki was hosted on elwiki, a free mediawiki host. The wiki was basically unused, and eventually the elwiki site went down altogether.
- July 28 - July 30 (2007)
For a few days the wiki was hosted on editthis.info, however the host used an old version of mediawiki and failed with backups.
- July 31 - October 26 (2007)
A time of AIDS (but higher uptime than anything else, surprisingly), the wiki was hosted by Picatta on a residential comcast cable line, on an eMachine 633 IDS that ran freeBSD.
- October 26 - January 4 (2008)
Thanks to Soviet Russia paying for a $5/month server, the wiki was hosted on its first *real* webhost, this time on an oversea (HK) host. The problem was that it had 0 DDoS protection, and was down later in it's life.
- January 5 - February ~11 (2008)
Because of the irc linking of g00ns into the partyvan irc network, z3r0 offered to host the wiki on his server, which gave us several hundred gigabytes in bandwidth, dual core 2.3 GHz processors, and an unmetered 100 mbit pipe. This worked very well, but with the xbox hueg traffic jump and near-constant DDoS during project chanology, it proved too much for the server. Because of the bumpy move of servers, there was a shitton of downtime.
- February 18 - February 29 (2008)
With the creation of anonhost, a fuckton of new capability was added to the ability for the wiki to serve--a quad core processor, 4 gigs of ram, and dual gigabit lines. (Which, in other news, needs donations). It costs nearly $500 per month, but apparently WedTM can absorb some of that with his $15,000 per month rack. At the end of the month, due to some fucktard posting CP all over the server, WedTM scrapped the whole thing and formatted the HD. There was about 1 day of downtime in transition.
- March 1 - ??? (2008)
The wiki is now brought to you on a freebsd powered VPS on the same server as before, but with no other fucktards on it to post CP. During the process, it was found that the server was compromised while hosted on the g00n server, and user passwords were made available to unknown hackers. It is advised that everyone change their password.
- March 4 (2008)
A troll somehow gained access to protected page, and moved shit around. The wiki *should* be fixed, now that his changes were reverted and the database restored.
- March 5-6 (2008)
WedTM decided to move the host os to server 2008, minimal downtime was experienced.
- March 6-8 (2008)
Due to a HD crash on the 9th, this period was removed from the wiki.
- March 9 (2008)
The wiki is now up, but next week we expect a meteor will strike the server, the death of all firstborn, and a 30 day solar eclipse.
- March 15 (2008)
Apparently the date on the server was 4 days behind. Date is fixed, and now there is a several day gap in the server logs/page edits.
- March 16 (2008)
A DDoS snowballed into a shitload of work. Full explanation here.
- March 22 (2008)
Problem with the nameservers, partyvan.info does not work but xyndros.ath.cx does.
- March 26 (2008)
Possible server change? Date rolled back 3 days, set forward again. Gap in logs.
- April 7 (2008)
WedTM dropped off of the face of the earth, host canceled account, no new hosting in site.
- April 26 (2008)
Malaphus now hosting wiki on his box
- April 29 (2008)
The wiki is undergoing a redesign, things are ugly as fuck. To fix this, submit your own design.
- May 10 (2008)
Mediawiki updated to latest version
- May 14 (2008)
Apparently the sysadmin upgraded the server without backing stuff up, so all mysql stuff was lost. Reverted to backup from the 9th.
- May 15 (2008)
Project Chanology will be at the bottom of the raid list until the next major raid. Keep in mind that the list isn't necessarily in order of importance.
- May 25 (2008)
Recently added the EmbedVideo extension. You can use it to embed videos from now on.
- June 4 (2008)
Someone got into ssh and deleted all the files.
- June 9 (2008)
Rebuilding wiki
- June 19 (2008)
All /i/ boards except for freechan is down, please use freechan fgts.
- June 20 (2008)
Malaphus disappeared from the internets (dead?), and as he not only paid the server bill but controlled the backups, we were fucked.
- June 29 (2008)
New host found (andy). Currently setting up server.
- June 30 (2008)
Setting up mediawiki and finishing server.
- July 1 (2008)
Wiki is now up and operational, but the only backup we had was old. Currently patching the wiki using bits from other mirrors and from google cache.

New hosting found
- October 10 (2008)
partyvan.info re-bought, rebuilding taking place.
- October 11 (2008)
Lots of shit re-added by hand to the w/i/ki, from mirrors and good-ole google cache.
- December 15 (2008)
Wiki will go down in the next few days, as we are moving to a dedicated server. Excellent timing on someone's part, considering the the wiki was finally picking up steam, with a 500% traffic increase over last month.
- January 9 (2009)
Afraid.org, which handled our dns, decided to pull the plug and redirect partyvan.info to localhost. Can still be access using a hostfile hack.
- January 11 (2009)
DNS is currently being worked out. In the meantime, this could be used.
- February 14 (2009)
Domain issue fixed, everything is up.
- March 9 (2009)
Wiki was down briefly due to Terms of Service and lolfbi issues.
- March 10 (2009)
Stuff's back up, but I maintain that the banner is fugly --Hitlerlol 17:46, 10 March 2009 (UTC)
- March 11 (2009)
Disregard that, the banner is fixed.
- April 25 (2009)
Wiki is down and redirecting to LM. Relentless has apparently been booted by r3x for being a fag/powerwhore
- April 26 (2009)
Relentless sets up rival wiki at insurg.in
- May 9 (2009)
r3x hosts a backup of wiki at insurgen.cc, shit gets changed, partyvan.info still points at LM
- June 1 (2009)
Partyvan.info is back up, under new management, and is being overhauled. I'll be editing both until only one remains --Hitlerlol 22:39, 3 June 2009 (UTC)
- July 28 (2009)
Both wikis up, but insurgen.info has more traffic and is up more often
- November 22 (2009)
Partyvan.info is basically completely dead
- Late 2009/Early 2010
Wiki comes back as a partial setup under pv.rockstararmy.com, relentless gives NekoArc the backup he had to restore things. Eventually becomes partyvan.info. Forced to change servers a few times due to lolTOS
- April 18 (2010)
Partyvan.info is back, insurgen.info appears perma dead (r3x has fled the battle), and the wiki is under essentially the same people as it was before partyvan irc collapsed, or so I think, which is hard to tell because everyone changed their nicknames. --Hitlerlol 00:41, 21 April 2010 (UTC)
- May (2012)
Shit got v& due to other stuff hosted on the servers
- Late 2012ish
Vankrause takes over and tries to restore everything
- Early 2013
Vankrause has hosting problems and shit goes down *again*
- April 15 (2013)
NekoArc brings insurg.in back online with the old backup that relentless used in 2009 to do yet another restore. THREE MORE YEARS. --NekoArc (talk) 20:08, 5 May 2013 (CEST)
- December 3 (2024)
I have set up a mirror of the wiki at pvwiki.chipmunk.land, which was made using two wikidumps and images from the Wayback Machine. --Chipmunk (talk) 02:44, December 3, 2024 (UTC)
- December 7 (2024)
The wiki now attempts to hide Referer
s using the Referrer-Policy: no-referrer
header, and the HitCounters extension has been added. --Chipmunk (talk) 01:03, December 7, 2024 (UTC)
- January 4 (2025)
The wiki has been bumped to MediaWiki 1.43.0 --Chipmunk (talk) 03:06, January 5, 2025
- April 30 (2025)
Due to me adding IPv6 support earlier this month but forgetting listen [::]:443 ssl;
in the nginx config of this wiki, the wiki was inaccessible via HTTPS and IPv6, however this is now fixed. Also, the wiki has been bumped to MediaWiki 1.43.1. Chipmunk (talk) 01:49, 1 May 2025 (UTC)
