The cyber-attackers who took Mastercard.com down earlier today just announced plans to take Visa.com down. They say their attack will commence in one hour. This is, of course, revenge for both credit card companies shutting off donations to Wikileaks. These are all part of Operation Payback, a coordinated attack on anti-piracy groups and others that started three months ago
What led up to this
With Wikileaks release of the U.S. Diplomatic Cables, pressure from governmental agencies was used to help remove any finacial support for Wikileaks. Mastercard Europe and Visa International withdrew support and payment processes for accounts owned by Wikileaks editor-in-chief Julian Assange.

Hello there fellow anon. I'm just a lowly business major passing by, giving a few tips here and there on what would really hurt for Mastercard and Visa.
The Concept of Goodwill and Brand Image
Due to the fact that attacking tangible assets would be extremely difficult given the scale and scope of these corporate giants, it would be better to focus on attacking GOODWILL. The glorious thing about GOODWILL is that it is pretty much the intangible assets of this firm.
Intangible assets consists of BRAND IMAGE, CUSTOMER RELATIONS, CLIENT RELATIONS, and jazz like that.

The net carrying value of goodwill and intangible assets, excluding capitalized software, was $539 million, including $209 million of unamortizable customer relationships, as of December 31, 2009.
That $209 million is a lot of moolah. It should be simple. Just defeat their brand image. This can be done easily by simply REBRANDING Mastercard in such a manner that it means the exact opposite of what people currently think of it as. All they have is a marketing department that deals with commercials and advertisements. We on the otherhand have the capability to virally market Mastercard and Visa in such a manner that it would degrade the brand image they've built up for so long within a month. It has to be a witty and focused message (one message per brand) that sticks with the psyche of the population. This will require propaganda on our part for the purpose of PsyOPs.
You are DDOSing the wrong thing
You all seem to be targetting the wrong thing. What needs to be found are the IP addresses of the servers which deal with customer transactions. Shut that down (via DDOS perhaps) and you've shut down the entire operation of Visa and Mastercard within the region to which the IP addresses correspond with. And so, focus on the big commercial cities of the world: New York City, Hong Kong, London, Tokyo, Toronto, Melbourne, etc.

Make it a bitch and a half to deal with Visa and Mastercard on part of the customer. If it is made that the customer is wholly incapable with dealing with mastercard or visa, then you have won half of the game.
The other half of the game is won from getting investors to sell Mastercard and Visa stocks en masse.
